| BZA demands district status for Billawar | | | JAMMU | NOV 10 The leaders of ‘Billawar Zila’ Andolan forum in a press meet held here today strongly criticized the coalition govt of Ghulam Nabi Azad of its discriminating attitude with the people of Billawar, Bani and Basholi by ignoring their genuine demand of separate district. The leaders Ghulam Haider Malik ex- Dy speaker and advocate, Hari Chand Jalmeria president of Kisan Sabha jointly addressing the press conference said Azad govt created districts in Kashmir Valley at a distance of 15 kms and ignore the other area having distances about 200 kms with district Hqs. They said, Billawar, Bani and Basholi tehsil of district Kathua have hilly terrain from one side it connects Himachal Pradesh and from one side, Udhampur and Doda etc. They said, district Hqs for these tehsil is situated in the south east corner adjoining to Pakistan and Punjab. The people of Bani, Basholi, and Billawar face lot f problem to reach distt Hqs. The leaders blamed the state govt in ignoring these areas since independence Major blocks area without any road connectivity. There is a vast potential for development of tourism, horticulture, agriculture and animal husbandry in the areas, but no attention is being paid for its development, they said. Leaders urged the govt immediately create a separate district of Billawar, otherwise mass agitation will be launched by the people of these area. Among others who were present on the occasion were Lt. Col F.S Andotra, Ram Dhan and Dr Dya Ram.
