EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 10: Former Prime Minister of Jammu Kashmir, Bakshi Ghulam Muhammad and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah held Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) ideologue, Maqbool Bhat in high esteem. Bakshi even signed his roadmap for `liberation of Kashmir with his blood and Farooq ridiculed his close friends for maligning the image of Maqbool.
In Late 60s Maqbool Bhat came to Kashmir on a special mission. His close friend Advocate Ghulam Nabi Hagroo had become the acting president of Plebiscite Front and did not want to meet him for some strong reasons. He did not want to convey the message that the Plebiscite Front had connections with underground people. But, Bhat called on him and apprised him of the importance of his visit. He had plans of meeting people like Farooq Abdullah and Bakshi Ghulam Muhammad. The duo also discussed Maqbool's vision document.
Finally the meeting with Dr Farooq Abdullah and Bakshi Ghulam Muhammad was facilitated. It is believed that both of them accepted the vision document in principle. While Farooq Abdullah signed the document with a pen, Bakshi Ghulam Muhammad chose to sign it with his blood. Bakshi, according to Hagroo pricked his thumb and the few drops of blood that oozed out were used as ink by him. "By this bold gesture, Bakshi wanted to convey that he was ready to sacrifice his life under the dynamic leadership of Maqbool Bhat", Hagroo said.
Farooq Abdullah was driving his friends to National Conference office on a sunny afternoon in 1975. The car came to a screeching halt near the erstwhile Broadway cinema. Farooq Abdullah was furious and gave two of his colleagues on the rare seat a scornful look. Farooq Abdullah even and abusive language with them.
The persons in the car had joined Satantara Party and were desperate to come back to National Conference which they had deserted. Farooq had promised to drive them to National Conference office.
During the journey, Wahid and Sharif-ud-Din discussed Maqbool Bhat as Farooq Abdullah and Zahid listened keenly. One of them said Maqbool was a double agent and not a real freedom fighter. This angered Farooq so much that he humiliated the persons whom he had promised rehabilitation in National Conference. He lost his cool and even used abusive language.
