Kashmiri separatists happy over progress in Indo-Pak dialogue | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar/Jammu, Feb 11 (KIP):-Kashmiri separatists seem to have left it to New Delhi and Islamabad to settle the bilateral problems after having realized that they were being ignored by both.
However, the separatists are willing to contribute to the process and to the success of the proposed talks between Delhi and Islamabad at a high level. A senior APHC leader, Professor Abdul Gani Bhat said "we are ready to help the two sides, if they want, to bridge the gap through sustained negotiations.
In reply to a question Bhat said "even if we are not consulted it does not matter as long as Islamabad and New Delhi are willing to resume bilateral talks."He said that "we have been always in favour of settling all the issues through talks in the interest of peace in the subcontinent."
Asked whether the separatists were satisfied with the decision of the two sides to resume talks, Bhat said "we are happy and we will be elated if the process of dialogue remained sustained and purposeful." Asked to what extent the Kashmiri separatists could help the two sides to make progress during the parleys the APHC leader said that "since we too are party to the Kashmir dispute we could help the two sides to evolve a couple of solutions which would settle the core issue."
Bhat said as far as the issues pertaining to the Siachen Glacier,Sir Creek and water disputes were concerned these issues could be resolved by New Delhi and Islamabad through sustained talks but as far as the Kashmir issue was concerned "the matter could be settle through triangular talks."
Asked whether the separatists hoped expected a formal invitation for talks from New Delhi Bhat said "we have hopes.Even if India and Pakistan are two nuclear states they cannot ignore the aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir."He added the Kashmir issue may not be settled only through talks between political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi because Pakistan too was a party to the dispute. In support of his contention he said that Delhi has had a number of agreements and accords with a few Kashmiri leaders in the past but those accords did not settle the Kashmir issue.
Bhat said once India and Pakistan made some progress in their parleys the two sides should involved representatives of people of Jammu and Kashmir in the talks and the solution that emerges from the triangular parleys can be "durable and permanent."(KIP)
