Second consecutive loss for J&K in Cricket | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 12: Jammu & Kashmir lost their second consecutive match after the side was beaten by Services by six wickets in the ongoing North Zone Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day tournament at Dhruve Pandove Stadium, Patiala in Punjab. According to the reports reaching here, victory came for Services with the help of a six. Needing 215 runs for a win, Services attained the goal rather easily making 220 runs in 40 overs for the loss of four wickets. Sumit Singh and Jasvir Singh played match winning innings of 84 and 52 runs respectively while skipper, Yaspal Singh contributed unbeaten 30 runs. From J&K, Parvez Rasool was most successful bowler with two wickets, followed by Raman Dutta and Abid Nabi, who shared apiece each. Earlier, J&K won the toss and decided to bat first. The whole side went to the pavilion with 214 runs on board in 48.2 overs of the 50 overs game. Opener, Vimarsh Kaw failed to come upto the expectations and bowled out on duck. The loss of first wicket with just one run on the board haunted J&K throughout. However, Adil Rishi (12) and Arshad Bhat (24) put in some resistance and together added 41 runs for the second wicket partnership. It was followed by steady innings played by other middle order. It was because of loss of three wickets in a gap of just eight runs that stopped J&K from building a big total. Had leggie Manik Gupta (not out 23) and pacer Abid Nabi (28) not played confident innings contributing 46 runs for the last wicket stand, J&K innings could have ended below 200 runs mark. Both these bowlers deserve appreciation for their fighting spirit.
