Decision to hold Panchayat elections welcome step: PCC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Feb 12: Decision of Jammu and Kashmir government to hold Panchayat elections in near future is a welcome step and this initiative will have long lasting effect in ensuring people’s participation in the implementation of rural development schemes. This was declared by former Minister and Vice-President PCC Yash Paul Khajuria while addressing public meetings at Ramnagar and Manwal today. Khajuria hailed decision of state government for holding Panchayat elections in next three months. He said that it is the right decision as the people are eagerly waiting for Panchayat elections. He asked party functionaries of Udhampur district to gear up for elections. Khajuria also appealed people to select educated, honest and dedicated candidates for this basic institution of democracy. Khajuria said that there is a dire need for opening of a Degree college at Manwal being a far-flung area. Speaking at Ramnagar, he said that there are many pockets in the constituency where people are still waiting for electrification. Prominent among those who attended the meeting included Surinder Advocate, Ashok Bakshi, Om Parkash, Dr. B.D.Gupta, Vinod Khajuria, Des Raj Damaliya, Mustaq Ahmed, Master Thakur Dass, Hassan Sardar, Vijay Manhas, Makhan Lal, Joginder Pal, Manzoor Ahmed, Dharam Chand, Neelam Devi, Sarla Devi, Toshi and others.
