Civilizational values of Ladakh catalysts of its development: Jora | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 12: Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora said that Ladakh hasa distinct socio-cultural heritage, adding that Buddhist influence on Ladakh culture started as early as the 7th century and now major chunk of population follows this faith. Speaking at the inaugural session of one-day national seminar on ‘socio-cultural heritage of Ladakh’, organized by Government Women’s Degree College, Gandhinagar, in sponsorship of ICSSR, Chandigarh today, Jora said even though original population of Ladakh consisted of Dards, an Indo-Aryan Race, but large scale immigration from Tibet changed the cultural heritage of Ladakh. Jora said that one of the major highlights of the culture of Ladakh are the monasteries that you will find in almost every village. He said the other dominant faith that of Islam, finds a presence mainly in western areas of the region. Minister said that foreign tourist’s oftenly appreciated the cultural values of Ladakhi’s which gained confidence among the people of the area. Minister appreciated efforts of the college management for organizing such a seminar which have provide a platform for enriching the cultural heritage of Ladakh among the youth. Director Colleges, Dr. Sham Lal Gupta, Principal Degree College, Gandhinagar, Prof. Nandni Kohli, Principal Women’s College, Srinagar, Prof. Tadzin Joldan, Principal of different Degree Colleges, Head of Departments of various Universities, Scholars, Intellectuals and students participated in one-day seminar and presented their presentations on the topic.
