Abhay, Zaffar receive KECSS award | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 12: The renowned Santoor Maestro and Music composer Abhay Rustum Sopori, and Zafar Iqbal Manhas, Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages have been honoured with the Kashmir Education, Culture and Science Society (KECSS) Awards 2011. The awards were presented by Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi during a function held at Lal Ded Center, New Delhi. While Abhay Rustum Sopori received the award for his outstanding contribution in the field of music, Zafar Iqbal Manhas got the award for his outstanding contribution and innovative cultural dialogue programme and pioneering work in culture as Secretary J&K Academy. Other recipients of the award include Prof Chaman Lal Sapru (Literature), Dr. Bharat Chattoo (Science & Technology), Dr. Kundan Lal Chowdhury (Medicine), A.N. Kaul (Literature), Monahar Trakru (Media & Broadcasting), Dr. M.L. Dhar (Medicine), Dr. Saligram Bhatt (Research & Academics) and Veer Munshi (Arts).Speaking on the occasion, Sheila Dikshit highlighted the contribution of Kashmiri, residents in Delhi and said that they have been integral part of the socio-cultural development of metropolis. She said that the first Prime Minister of India and the first and only woman Prime Minister of India have been from Kashmir and it’s something that every Kashmiri should be proud of. She also hailed the efforts of Sopori family in the field of music and culture, and praised the work of both Pt. Bhajan Sopori and Abhay Sopori.
