Vaishnodevi hills to be treated to prevent land slips
2/13/2011 12:07:05 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb 12: The Vaishno Devi hills would be treated scientifically to prevent land slips along the 13-km track from Katra town to the holy cave shrine of the goddess.
The shrine board had engaged Tehri Hydro Development Corporation -- a Government of India undertaking -- for initiating all measures to scientifically treat the vulnerable portions of the hill slopes along the track, a Raj Bhavan statement said here today.
Governor NN Vohra, who was also the board chairman that managed the shrine affairs, wanted slope stabilization work done along the 13-km pilgrimage route from Katra base camp to the shrine located at the height of 5,200 feet above sea level, it added.
The shrine, that attracted more than eight million pilgrims last year, is located 55 km north of Jammu.
