Police take possession of "disputed" land at Janipura

Jammu, Feb 12: Police today took possession of the "disputed" land on the high court road at Janipura where a mosque was being built by some people.
The police action sparked off protests by members of the particular community.The construction work on the mosque was stopped by police few days back after some locals had objected to it.
A police team, led by SP (city) J S Johar, reached the disputed site today and erected a temporary tent on it, taking its temporary possession to avoid any clash. Angered by the police action, members of the particular community, including women, staged an anti-police demonstration amidst the raising of slogans.
When contacted, Johar said police had taken the land in their possession on the court directive.The protest continued for abour two hours. The people, however, dispersed peacefully on the intervention of community elders.
