EARLY TIMES REPORT
Basantgarh (Udhampur) Feb13 : – Defeating the challenges thrown up by snowy weather and incessant rains over the last 48 hours, the people of Basantgarh created a history by expressing their solidarity towards maintaining global peace and eco-green world by participating overwhelmingly in International Peace and Green Rally at Sub Division headquarters under leadership of Sub Divisional Magistrate Dudu Basantgarh Amit Sharma.
This was followed by a second leg of programme involving a Summit of Young Leaders of the Sub Division in which debates, discussions and resolutions were passed regarding maintenance of peace and green environment all around. The rally started from GHSS Complex, Basantgarh after it was flagged off by SDM Amit Sharma.
The rally passed through the markets of Basantgarh before culminating at the Helipad area. A special feature of this rally was chanting of slogans and enthusiasm even among women folks and children of the area who were chanting a slogan “Aman humara nara hai, Haryali ko bachana hai” .
It is worthwhile to mention here that Basantgarh has always set an example of complete peace and communal harmony even at times when the state and whole nation was suffering badly due to it. Similarly, the green cover available along with water streams and mountainous ranges like Seoj Dhar in the beautiful and unexploited hilly terrains of Dudu Basantgarh clearly distinguishes it with rest of the tourism resorts of the state.
After successful culmination of rally, Young Leaders Summit was held in school complex where not only young students from different schools expressed their views but even teachers and intellectuals shared their thoughts on the topic and resolved to carry these two inter-related twin missions forward through similar such campaigns in future. SDM Amit Sharma threw light on the role of youngsters in creating awareness about working in unison towards keeping the belts of Sub Division peaceful and contributing immensely towards maintaining greens and ecological balance in all such areas.
Finally, the good debaters and speakers were awarded with trophies by the chief guest for their performance and dedication towards these twin issues of peace and green world. Prominent amongst the award winners were Ranjeet Singh (10th class), Vishal Singh (8th Class), Shafquat Hussain (10th Class) and Zarina Begum (8th Class), all students of different schools and Tirth Ram, Kewal Singh, Ajay Kumar and Shikha Singh, all teachers of different schools of Sub Division. The main organizers were Purshotam Kumar and Mustafa Kamal of Royal Youth Club Basantgarh affiliated to NYK Udhampur. Other prominent persons present on the occasion were R Karlopia, Tara Nath Thappa, Ranjeet Sharma, Kanshi Ram, Dr Sham Lal, Mohd Hussain Bhat and representatives of press and media.
