2/13/2011 10:51:19 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 13: "Peace is not only the necessity but the destiny of the future world", said Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, President of Socialistic Democratic Party while addressing the special function organized by the party in connection with the Indo-Pak Love & Peace Day on the eve of Valentine’s day at the famous shrine of Baba Chambliyal situated at the International Border in Vijaypur sector.
SDP had initiated this yearly celebration in 2008 and since then, this event is celebrated regularly by SDP. "These programmes have succeeded in initiating peace and brotherhood activities across the border. This is a people’s initiative and many Pakistani papers carried huge stories about our last year’s programme and many social organizations also responded very positively to our initiatives", said Dr
Darakhshan.
Attended by senior party leaders and activists of SDP, the specialty of this year’s programme was the unique Valentine messages to the youth of Kashmir who crossed over to the other side of the border to pick up guns and are now repenting on their decision and want to come back home. Dr Darakhshan extended messages to these youth saying: "Come back home and work for peace and brotherhood". She also extended a message to militant leader and Hizbul Mujahiddin Chief Syed
Salahuddin to shun guns and work for peace as Islam preaches Peace. Placards with these messages were held by Dr Andrabi and other leaders of SDP.
SDP activists on the occasion appealed to the rulers of India and Pakistan to arrange the return of these youth to their homes. This year’s programme started with an all religious prayer for peace at the shrine of Baba Chamliyal, a saint revered equally in India and
Pakistan. A chaddar was offered to the saint with floral tributes. Candles in the heart shape design were lit and pigeons and heart shape balloons released towards the skies of Pakistan.
