Green parks encroached by security forces in Jammu
2/13/2011 10:54:07 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb13, : The residents in Kashmir valley often blame state government authorities and the security forces for not expediting the process of relocating troops from inside government buildings, school premises and play grounds.
Sometimes, when they mount greater degree of pressure, the camps of security forces are shifted out to avoid inconvenience to the local residents.
But people living here in Jammu never complain about the same and are suffering in isolation.
In Jammu city alone, several parks have been occupied by the security forces deployed on security duties outside the residences of VIP's and senior bureaucrats but the state government has never spared a second thought to adjust handful of them to safer locations and resurrect the old glory of the green parks in the heart of Jammu city.
Green belt area of Gandhi Nagar, certain pockets in Trikuta and Shastri Nagar, Channi Himmat, Sainik Colony, bylanes in Talab Tiloo, green patches of land in RoopNagar, have been occupied by the security forces.
Due to their preoccupation, the local residents in the area including small children and women cannot step out liberally and play in the parks or go for walking.
In certain cases along with security forces several local dry cleaners and others use the vast open spaces for their work and dry their clothes. The constant presence of security forces has adversely impacted the green parks. The security forces personnel have pitched tents, raised temporary lavatories, park their bikes and use the space for variety of purposes without any check.
