J&K plans legislation to check ragging | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 14: Jammu and Kashmir will soon to have its own anti-ragging law for imposing a blanket ban on ragging in all the educational institutions across the state. Last year, some students were injured in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University when ragging took the violent form. After the incident, varsity authorities suspended nine students and initiated legal action against them. Government is bringing anti-ragging bill in the forthcoming budget session of the legislature. Bill has already been vetted by the law department and needs approval of cabinet. Bill is likely to be approved by the cabinet in the next meeting. Anti-ragging Bill once passed by legislature will make ragging a punishable offense,” a senior official of the law department, who has played a key role in drafting the Bill, said. Official said that bill has been drafted in a way so that violators of anti-ragging laws are dealt with an iron hand. Ragging in schools and colleges in the state particularly in Jammu region has assumed violent manifestations in past with student groups in schools, colleges and universities entering in physical fights causing injuries to some students.
