| JMC runs bulldozer from Gandhi Nagar to Satwari | | |

Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) launched a special anti encroachment drive on the pattern of pick and chose here today. The drive started from main stop Gandhi Nagar and was concluded at Ashok Nagar, Satwari. The municipality team equipped with two bulldozers demolished several encroachments in the way and seized goods having worth in several thousands from the site of encroachments.
While speaking to the Early Times, Corporator ward number 23 Nai Basti, Pawan Singh, said that JMC carried out the drive with out any prior notice. He also apprised that the drive was biased and the target was made on the establishments of less influential persons. “Had the notice been given in the time they would have removed all the encroachments on their own. But the way JMC carried out the drive it has really inflicted heavy loss to the poor people” said Pawan Singh.
According to sources, shopkeepers can place their belongings at a length of 2- 2.6 feet before their shops, but there were several shops, which were spared despite large encroachments, and the ire of Municipality fell over the poor shopkeepers.
When a senior official of the Municipality was contacted he said that the drive was conducted on the direction of High Court in which it has ordered to remove all the encroachments from the city.
