| Pahari students rue opposition to ST status demand | | | =EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 14: All J&K Pahari Students Samaj Front (AJKPSSF) has criticized All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC for opposing ST status to Paharis. In a meeting of AJKPSSF held under the chairmanship of its President Sheikh Abdul Rashid wherein Spokesperson of the front Syed Zeshan Kazmi said that it is only a cheap attempt by some people to create confusion regarding Paharis.
He said that Paharis’ demand of ST status has to do nothing with ST/SC or OBC. We are not against any section of society but we are against the people who are making such types of statements which are baseless. We demand ST status as a matter of our right and we will get it at any cost. We are also tribals having our own different culture and language.
So far administration is concerned every governor, successive governments, High court of J&K, Justice Sageer Report and interlocutors on J&K have recommended this matter often to central government that Pahari people deserves ST status. Rashid appealed to all those who are creating hurdles for Paharis to get ST status.
He said stop these divisive statements as we have already seen various political differences created by several politicians for their self interests. He further said that we are thankful to state government for its positive role in uplifting Pahari community.
