Punjab’s big win over J&K in Vijay Hazare Trophy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 14: Jammu and Kashmir today lost their third match in a row to formidable side of Punjab in the ongoing North Zone Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day tournament at PCA Stadium, Mohali in Chandigarh. It was an outright win for hosts Punjab after the side trounced visitors J&K by eight wickets despite brilliant innings played by young Imtiaz Thakur and Aditya Partap Singh, who made half centuries. According to the reports reaching here, earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, J&K set a target of 221 runs for Punjab to chase losing all their wickets in 49.3 overs. Opener, Imtiaz Thakur played confident innings of 52 runs, followed by heroic knock from young and consistent performer, Ian Dev Singh, who made 60 runs. Arshad Bhat (29) and skipper, Hardeep Singh (27) as also Manik Gupta (18) were other main contributors to the J&K total. However, Ian Dev Singh, Parvez Rasool, Samiullah Beigh, Ram Dayal anad Raman Dutta failed to touch the double digit mark. From Punjab, R Sharma was most successful bowler with four for 28 runs in 9.3 overs while A Uniyal and MS Gony claimed two wickets each. Later, chasing the target, Punjab attained the goal making 223 runs for the loss of only two wickets sparing 15 overs of their innings. Later, chasing the target, Punjab batsmen hardly faced any difficulty in overhauling the opponent total. The opening wicket partnership between K Goel and R Inder Singh yielded 125 runs. While Goel remained unbeaten at 73, Inder Singh made 71 runs coming off 105 deliveries studded with 10 hits to the fence. MS Gony and U Koul were other main contributors with 44 (off 22 balls, 15x4, 2x6) runs and unbeaten 18 respectively. Parvez Rasool and Samiullah Beigh shared one wicket each from J&K. Now, in the fourth league tie, J&K shall take on Himachal Pradesh on February 16.
