Rationalise staffing, seniority: CS tells Health, Med Edu deptts | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 14: Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal today asked for rationalization of staffing in all the feeding units of Health & Medical Education Departments. Chairing a review meeting of the Departments here this morning, the Chief Secretary asked the Departments to update the seniority lists of doctors and officers so that confirmation at higher levels is carried without any delay. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary took a detailed review of all the schemes and functions undertaken by these two departments. He was told that work on two super specialty hospitals at Jammu and Srinagar is apace which have been set up under Pradhan Mantri Swasthi Suraksha Yojna(PMSSY). On various schemes in operation, the meeting was told that to cater to the rural health needs National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) was extended to the State in 2005 under which so far 9500 Asha workers have been engaged and additional 500 would be engaged during next year. The Chief Secretary impressed on keeping segment wise progress of the scheme in sight and achieves the objectives within the targeted time frame. He was told that under the scheme 1709 sub centres would be provided with additional ANMs and 57 CHCs are being upgraded as first referral units for which the process is on. Since the onset of the scheme, the meeting was told, institutional deliveries have gone upto 80 per cent and mortality rate has gone down to 45 per cent, much below the national average. The meeting was told that apart from 20 District hospitals, 484 ISM hospitals, 648 PHCs and 2371 sub centres are working in the State.
