Govt declares PHE employees strike illegal, invokes ESMA | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 14 - The Government has declared the strike call given by a section of PHE employees from February, 15 illegal and repugnant to the public interest. It has decided to invoke sections of Essential Service Maintenance Act (ESMA) against the striking employees to ensure that people do not suffer on account of the strike. It may be recalled that a section of PHE employees has decided to go on strike for 72 hours from February 15 to press for the implementation of their demands. According to an official spokesman, the government has already fulfilled most of the demands put-forth by the employees associations like release of one day additional salary and payment of wages under MWGA at the rate of Rs 110 per day. All the Chief Engineers have been directed to make payments on said parameters already, the spokesman added. As for the release of second instalment of 0.75 day, it has been agreed in principle by the Chief Minister. The third and final instalment of 0.75 day shall also be sanctioned/released in due course of time, he added. As such the Government has decided to declare the strike as illegal and against the public interest. The spokesman has appealed the PHE employees to remain on duty and not indulge in such un-scrupulous activities. Meanwhile, the spokesman said that the Government has made all necessary arrangements to ensure un-interrupted drinking water supply to the public.
