| New horticulture building inaugurated | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Feb 14: Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma today inaugurated a new building of Horticulture Planning and Marketing constructed at a cost of Rs 40 at Rajbagh. The minister was also accompanied by the Minister of state for Health, Horticulture and R & B Javid Ahmad Dar. Addressing a large gathering of orchardists, the Minister said that 60 to 70 pe rcent people of the valley are directly or indirectly involved with horticulture, floriculture and agriculture sectors and said that the coalition was making every effort to make the farmers of the State self reliant. Sharma further said that the production of walnut and Ambri apple of the Valley have no any parallel in the world so give also a good attention on the production on these fruits also. He asked the farmers to pay attention on the better quality and packing rather on quantity. He said in the private sector there is a Rs.2200 crore turn out in the State. Sham Lal further said that there is a big scope for Marigold and other flowers in the valley as the valley has all the facilities like Irrigation, fertile land and a pleasant season. On this occasion, the Minister of state for Health and Horticulture Javid Ahmad Dar also spoke and asked the orchardists to expand their activities and benefit the other people also. The Minister distributed cheques worth Rs 7.50 lakh among the 26 orchardists of district Budgam and Srinagar for subsidy on account of machines, farm holding units and purchasing of power tillers etc. Later, on the Minister convened a meeting of the officers of Agriculture Produce Marketing in which many sectors of the department were discussed thoroughly. The meeting was attended by Floriculture Director Sarwar Naqash, Director Horticulture and Marketing M. S. Qasba, Deputy Director Horticulture, Executive Engineer and representatives of Parimpora Fruit Growers Association. On this occasion, the Minister directed the executive engineer for fencing and macdamisation of 324 kanals of Parimpora Fruit Mandi.
