Girl child still unwelcome in families
2/14/2011 9:45:52 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb 14: In a series of abandoning of girl child in city, it seems the society has not progressed in the matter of accepting the girl child.
Interestingly, many cases which include a recovery of one-day old girl child from the bus stand, two from railway station few days back and two children again on yesterday from the railway station.
In Jammu city, the cases of leaving of infants at various places are increasing as after every 2-3 days a case of girl infant recovery is being observed.
It is pertinent mentioning here that recently a girl child was recovered from Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital. Many families came up to adopt the child but fortunately the parents today came to have their child back from the hospital. The woman had left baby girl because she already had two daughters.
Notably, the police denied to give the child back to their parents as the enquiry was still going on as informed by a police officer.
According to the reports, Reeta Devi wife of Gopal Dass resident of village falora, Domana was beaten up by her husband for giving birth to a girl child. She was brutally beaten and later admitted to hospital.
Reports stated her mother abandoned the baby at hospital and had told to family that the child had died and hospital has retained the body.
Pertinently, about 22 cases have been noticed in a year in which all the children were female.
Despite, the state and central government introducing many schemes for the parents bearing girl child, still the people are abandoning them.
