Probe ordered into SDM's alleged involvement in fake gun license racket | | | JAMMU: A probe was today ordered into the alleged involvement of Mendhar SDM Mukhtar Choudhary and his clerk Khaliq Ahmad in the fake gun licence racket. An order to this effect was issued by DC, Poonch, Kuldeep Khajuria, official sources said.Khajuria had asked ADC, Poonch, Musraf Khan to hold a detailed inquiry in this regard, the sources added.The ADC would find out if the SDM and his clerk were involved in the racket. Khajuria said if their involvement figured, stern action would be taken against them. Mukhtar was on leave for the past one month on health grounds, he informed. The whole racket was unearthed by Janipura police on specific information. Police sources said a police team had been despatched to Mendhar, Poonch, to take custody of the SDM and the clerk. Four accused -- Chain Singh, Nasir Ahmad, Mohammad Rafiq and Subash Chander -- all residents of Koteranka, Rajouri, had already been arrested in the case along with 42 fake gun licences and some guns.Apart from Mukhtar and Khaliq, the involvement of Umar gun factory, Rajouri, Singh gun house, Shaheedi Chowk, and Suresh gun house, Shaheedi Chowk was also alleged to have figured in the racket.Majority of the fake licences were issued to the people of Rajouri and Poonch areas. Most of them had purchased guns and were now said to be working as guards in private firms in Mumbai and other areas of the country, the sources added. Two agents -- Purshotam and Bittoo -- were absconding. Raids were being conducted by police to nab them too. Sources said police were trying to find out if the racket was linked to militancy also. |
