Abandoned baby girl's mother comes forward | | | JAMMU: The mother of one-month-old baby girl, who was Saturday last found abandoned in the labour room of SMGS hospital here, today came forward to take it back home. Jyoti Devi, wife of Darshan Kumar of Hiranagar, had abandoned the baby in the hospital because she already had two daughters and wanted to get rid of the third, according to police sources. She Saturday came to the hospital to enquire about the health of a woman, who was admitted there after labour pains. While doctors attended the patient, she wrapped her baby in an old blanket, dropped her in the labour room and then fled the spot without being seen by anybody. From the hospital, she went home at Hiranagar and told family that her daughter had died and she had buried her. Everybody thought she was telling the truth, but when the family read about an abandoned baby girl in the hospital in local newspapers on Sunday, they got suspicious of her. Sources said her sustained questioning led the family to the bottom of the truth. Jyoti and her family today came to the SMGS hospital police post and claimed the baby. After making requisite queries and completing legal formalities, police gave back the baby to Jyoti. A case, however, stands registered at the concerned police station in this regard. |
