| Gupta suspecting foul in changing fiscal year. | | | JAMMU | NOV 10 Suspecting foul in the move of the Congress led coalition leaders of the State for reportedly switching over to financial Year from January to December instead of April to March, the former Union Minister and a senior leader of the BJP, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta impressed upon the Center that nothing should be done in isolation for Jammu and Kashmir as this would lead to create an impression that this state is something different from other parts of the country and thus, another wall of separatism would emerge. Sharply reacting to the reports that Jammu and Kashmir is switching over to January-December financial year, Prof. Gupta said that argument extended to this end is itself suspicious as Jammu and Kashmir is not the lone state of the country where climatic conditions in the winter months are harsh. The adjoining Himachal Pardesh as also Uttaranchal are having equally severe winter because of their being mountainous with having many parts snow covered. If they can pull with other states of the country, why not Jammu and Kashmir where a system was working for the past over 58 years. He alleged that changing of the fiscal calender in one state alone would obviously add to the already simmering feeling amongst the nationalists that because of the follies of the Congress leadership, Jammu and Kashmir has been made a state where in certain elements are always aspiring for differential treatment and thus giving place to uncertainties about the future of Jammu and Kashmir. If weather conditions demand certain change in the fiscal calendar, let Himachal, utteranchal and some others should also be put in this category but not Jammu and Kashmir alone, he asserted. The BJP leader also pleaded for reducing the life of the state assembly from six to five years like other states of the country so as demolish all the symbols of separatism and bring Jammu and Kashmir at par in all respects to other parts of the country so as to snub the voices of secessionism and generate a climate to make it realize to all concerned that Jammu and Kashmir is as good a part of India as other state are.
