Inter-school symposium organised in Mendhar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Feb 15: An inter-school symposium on ‘Sanitation – A Key for Better Health’ was organised by Directorate of Field Publicity, Government of India in coordination with Rural Development Department at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mendhar yesterday. Principal of the school Mohd. Shafi Mir presided over the function whereas BDO Mendhar Mohd. Sadeeq and BMO Mendhar Julfkaar Chowdhary were guest of honours. Moreover students, speakers including experts drawn from Rural Development, Education and Health strongly advocated for proper sanitation facilities in rural and border areas through Total Sanitation Campaign launched in the country. Speakers admitted that inadequate sanitation is causing a heavy toll of lives especially children’s lives in rural areas. Field Publicity Officer V.K.Magotra disclosed that under Total Sanitation Campaign over 7 crore individual house-hold latrines, 10 lakh school toilets, 3.47 lakh Anganwadi toilets and 19,500 Community Sanitary Complexes with total project outlay of Rs.17,885 crore have been constructed by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. The Rural Development has set up the target of providing universal toilet coverage in rural areas of the country by 2015. The three best adjudged speakers were suitably awarded.
