NH closed for traffic, avalanches warning issued | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb, 15: Since last two days, Jammu and Kashmir national highway has remained shut as the authorities warned of avalanches and landslides in the higher reaches of Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region. A senior official of the traffic department said that the Srinagar-Jammu highway will remain closed for vehicular traffic till the landslides which have occurred at a number of places on the road are not cleared completely. People intending to undertake travel from either side are being advised that they should contact the traffic control rooms before starting their journey, to get updated about the latest status of the national highway. The high danger avalanche warning has been issued by the disaster management cell here for snow bound areas above 2,500 metres in Jammu and Kashmir.Amir Ali, Incharge of the disaster management cell at the provincial headquarters has stated that for the avalanche prone areas Bannihal, Kishtwar, Gulmarg, Pulwama, Baramulla, Uri, Kupwara, Tangdhar, Keran, Machil, Gurez, Bandipora, Chowkibal, Gugaldara, Sonamarg, Drass and Kargil , the warning has been issued for the residents. People have been advised to remain inside their homes and on a regular interval also make sure that snow is cleared from the rooftops. There are the number of tourists who had gone to the above stated areas are strictly advised that till the permission from the concerning department is granted do not try to move on the road to the highway it can be extremely hazardous for them.
