The wild cat was in the room for the past over 20 hours and had not been captured by the wildlife officials at the time of going to the print after midnight. It entered the house of Prabhu, son of Tek Chand, at Drudi at about 3 am. While it moved towards the sheep and goats in the courtyard, Prabhu's shepherd dog encounter it.Hearing the dog bark, Prabhu and his uncle Hoshiyar Singh came out with their rifles. However, before they could spot the leopard, it attacked Hoshiyar, injuring him, Hukum Chand Magotra, a local, told Early Times over phone. When it moved towards Prabhu, he opened fire in the air following which it got panicked and entered the room from which he and his uncle had come out. Without wasting a second, Prabhu immediately closed the door and locked the animal inside. Hoshiyar was treated at a local medical centre. The dog, which was injured badly, was also treated at the centre. The matter was later brought to the notice of police and wildlife officials in the area by the villagers. Hukum Chand said though a cage was put at the room entrance by the wildlife officials, the leopard did not enter it. In his attempt to flee, it had also broken the wall of an adjoining room, he added. When contacted, a wildlife official said efforts were being made to capture the animal in the cage. Over 1,000 people and some local officers, including naib-tehsildar Major Singh, were camping outside Prabhu's house.Prabhu's family had shifted to neighbour's house, Hukum Chand informed. Police, however, said the holed up animal was a lion and not a leopard.
