Leopard attack: Adnan’s body recovered; people stage protest

Large number of people from Rajpora, Handwara today came on the road and staged a protest demonstration against wildlife department and district administration for their failure in protecting the lives of locals from man-eating leopards who have created reign of terror in the hamlet.
According to sources, the residents of the area came on roads this morning following the recovery of the body of 6 year old Adnan, who was reportedly picked up by a leopard, late last night.
The Protestants were demanding immediate action from the wildlife department as more than three children have been killed by leopards in the area during last six months. Adnan a six year old boy was taken by the leopard yesterday and his half eaten body was recovered this morning by Handwara police.
“The body was recovered from the adjoining forest area”, a police officer told News Agency of Kashmir.
Chanting slogans against the wild life officials, People were demanding immediate action against wildlife officials who failed to catch or kill the beasts. “Adnan was lifted by a leopard after he along with his sister went out side his residence for natural call”, A relative of Adnan told News Agency of Kashmir, adding “A team of Handwara police recovered a portion of his body from Gunjmulla forests this morning”.
Superintendent of Police Handwara, Haseeb Muggal when contacted said that last night a six year old boy child was attacked by a leopard and taken away towards jungle. “A special team was constituted to search the body, which finally was found in dense Gunjmulla Forests” he said.
Chief wildlife warden was not available for comments.
Meanwhile the last rites of Adnan was performed after the district administration assured the mob that a special drive would be started to trace these wild animals.
