634th birth anniversary of Guru Ravi Dass Ji celebrated | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 16: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today called for following teachings of great saints and seers to make the world a better place to live in. Addressing 634th birth anniversary function of Guru Ravi Dass Ji here, Tara Chand described Guru Ji an embodiment of justice and piety. He said that Guru Ji has worked for uplift of poor, weak and downtrodden sections throughout his life teaching humanistic ideals of truth, love and brotherhood. Tara Chand said that almighty God sends prophets and avtars whenever times are out of joint to guide mankind towards truth and righteousness. He said their teachings serve as beacon-light for the humanity forever. Deputy Chief Minister said that Jewel Chowk has been christened as Guru Ravi Dass Chowk to remember the great saint and refresh his social and religious contribution among the people. Deputy Chief Minister said Guru Ravi Dass Ji taught the essence of religion in a simple and lucid language. He said the Guru not only showed sympathy toward poor but demonstrated practically to improve their lot and better their living standard. Tara Chand said that a number of welfare schemes have been launched by State and Central Governments to ameliorate economic conditions of weaker and downtrodden sections of the society. He said scheduled castes also enjoy reservation in employment, colleges and professional institutions.
