Govt 's decision on troops reduction, withdrawal of AFSPA draws flak | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 15: The centre's proposed decision on troops reduction from J&K has drawn a flak and various political parties and nationalist forces in the state cautioning the Government against the move. The Government should restraint from taking any decision regarding the withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and troops reduction in view of the continuing cross border terrorism in the state, said a BJP spokesman. The recent incidents of increasing terrorist violence in Kashmir and killing of some top ranking ultras in Banihal and other hilly reaches of Jammu region is an indication that the militants are neither down nor out in the state, he added. He said the Government should not take any decision in hurry and adopt a wait and watch policy as any decision on troops reduction will embolden the terrorists, the masters across the border as well as the separatists. The Government should keep the ground situation in consideration and not go ahead with any such move which will demoralise the security forces and nationalist elements, he added. The BJP spokesman said that the stand taken by the Party has become more relevant in view of the statement of the Army Chief Gen V K Singh who accused Pakistan of still continuing aiding and abetting terrorism and the terrorist training camps are still running on Pakistani land. One should read between the lines of the statement of the Army Chief during his ongoing visit to the state who has also expressed reservations on withdrawal of AFSPA, the spokesman added. The Kashmiri Pandit organisations including Panun Kashmir, Kashmir Samiti Delhi, Kashmiri Pandit Conference, All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) and Roots in Kashmir have also warned against any move of withdrawing troops or revocation of AFSPA. The NPP, Shiv Sena as well as VHP, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Front and Terrorism Affected Peoples Front have also cautioned against move regarding withdrawal of troops or AFSPA. Kashmiri Pandits while cautioning the Government against the move said that it will prove another Himalayan blunder and embolden terrorists. Kundan Kashmiri president kashmiri Pandit Conference while commenting on reported move in this regard said the views given by Army Chief should be taken into consideration. He has sent a word of caution on troops reduction and revocation of AFSPA and Centre just to please some Kashmir based parties should not take any such decision which will prove inimical to national cause. The situation can further aggravate in Kashmir in view of the fluid political situation in Pakistan, he said adding the neighbouring country can't be trusted in view of its past role and any leniency by Government of India will have serious repercussions. The recent killing of two sisters in Sopore and other incident of terrorism can't be taken into isolation, he added.
