JAMMU, Feb 16: Does Pakistan pose danger to India? Yes, it does. After all, it has already waged four full-scale wars against India and it has been carrying on a low-intensity proxy war in J&K and other warts of India, particularly since 1989. But Pakistan can be tackled in no time. The Indian nation and the Indian Army are quite competent. They have inflicted crushing defeats on Pakistan four times and they have also proved that they can tackle the ongoing proxy war as well and defeat it comprehensively.
Does China pose danger to India? Yes, it does. It has already waged one full-scale war in 1962 and it has been hobnobbing with Pakistan to accomplish its evil designs on India. It has been active in the northern frontiers, including Gilgit-Baltistan region, and it has its evil eyes set on Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh and other strategic parts in the Himalayan region. China takes India to mean its number one rival in Asia and, hence, its anti-India activities and intrusions in the Indian territories. But the Indian nation and the Indian Army can take on China in case the situation so warrants. Army Chief V K Singh said so on Tuesday in Jammu. He said that the Indian Army is well-prepared to meet the Chinese challenge and defeat the enemy. It's not India of 1962 or of Jawaharlal Nehru whose judgment on men and matters was very poor. It's India of 21st century well-prepared to face and defeat any of the enemy's onslaughts, with the whole of the committed and politically conscious and mature Indian middle class and lower middle class prepared to make any sacrifice.
Do Kashmiri separatists, who are backed to the hilt by Pakistan, pose danger to national security and the country's secular, liberal and democratic values? Yes, they do. They have established by their words and actions that they are rabidly anti-India and that they cannot live in secular and democratic India. They are one as far as their ideology is concerned and it's regressive, intolerant and unaccommodating. They are one as far as their hatred for India is concerned. And, they are also one as far as their hostile attitude towards the minorities in the state is concerned. But they can be tackled in no time. They are surviving and thriving because of the political and moral support they are getting from certain elements within the establishment both in the state and in New Delhi. The Indian nation, the Indian Army and the paramilitary forces can controvert their pernicious influence in no time subject to the condition that those who are providing them political and moral support are reined in, notwithstanding their connections with connections with certain hostile diplomats posted in India. Their number is quite limited and their area of influence also confined to a few pockets.
Who, then, pose the real danger to national security and territorial integrity of India? The enemy within. It is in the Indian political establishment as well as the political establishment in the state. It is hardly necessary to name here the enemy within the political establishment, as everyone is fully aware of them, their antics, their statements and their public pronouncements. Everything is in public domain. Early Times have umpteen times catalogued in these columns their words, actions, statements and pronouncements. Suffice it to say that those responsible for upholding the Indian Constitution and protecting national unity and the country's territorial integrity and taking on subversives, communalists and separatists are themselves protecting and promoting them one way or the other, thus queering the Indian pitch in J&K and other parts of the country. Not all, but a few of them. Had everyone in the establishment done what these elements have been doing for years now, the Indian edifice would have crumbled by now like a house of cards crumbles. That it has not happened and that the country has withstood all these dubious attempts and the onslaughts is a clinching proof that there are many, many well-meaning and committed persons in the Indian political establishment who are standing like a rock and not allowing the enemy within the establishment to forge ahead. But the enemy is there and the enemy is real and more dangerous because he knows everything, as also because he is well entrenched and well-connected and in a position to play any kind of mischief.
