NC, Cong leaders begin lobbying for berths | Sonia asks Omar to decide | | sumit sharma EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 16: Amid pangs of cabinet expansion, top leadership of National Conference (NC) is meeting here on Friday to reportedly deliberate over the issue alongside chalking out strategy for forthcoming budget session. Sources in the National Conference (NC) said that its leaders are meeting to finalize list of those who are likely to be included in the possible cabinet expansion. They added that Dr.Mustafa Kamal, who happens to be a close relative of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is likely to take up the Job of Political Advisor, a place which is currently being held by Mubarak Gul. They further said that names Mir Saifullah and Choudhary Mohammed Ramzan are among other strong contenders for being inducted in the cabinet. Sources confirmed that NC leadership is likely to finalize its list in the meeting being held shortly at Jammu. On the other side, Congress sources averred that Abdul Majid Wani and Mohammed Sharief Niaz are leading form the front. They added that a coterie of Congress leaders met Sonia Gandhi to secure their berth in coalition ministry but, sources with in coalition government informed that it was made clear to them by Congress president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi that it is up to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to choose ministers according to his sweet will. Sources added that these congress ministers are now hovering like bees around Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to secure their berths while others are trying to pressurize the young Chief Minister through JKPCC president Prof. Saif-ud-din Soz and Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. They said that while Azad is likely to bat for ex-PWD minister Ghulam Mohammed Saroori who is facing a CBI inquiry and Mohammed Sharief Niaz who vacated Bhaderwah seat for Azad. Sources said that Soz is keen on the induction of former Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma after securing a legislative council berth for him. Congress, however is facing troubles from within in Kalakote constituency where some workers under the banner of Congress organized a meeting which was chaired by expelled Congress leader Ashok Kumar Sharma, an ex MLA, on 13 Feb. Other activists of Congress in Kalakote including Kuldeep Kumar Sharma, in charge of party in Kalakote block, Captain Raj Kumar, Mattoo Khan and Advocate Imtiyaz Ahmed raised strong objection regarding the act of expelled leader. They also brought the matter in the notice of high command to take suitable action against him. |
