Peace must for attracting tourists: Jora

JAMMU, Feb 17: Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora has said that all efforts are being taken for developing tourism destinations, adding that thrust is being laid on new destinations to promote cultural heritage in the State.
Addressing at the inaugural function of International Conference on ‘sustainable destination excellence innovations in alternative tourism’, organized by school of Hospitality Tourism Management, University of Jammu here today, Jora said that state tourism department has taken several initiatives to showcase varied tourism potential of Jammu and Kashmir at domestic as well as international level.
He hoped that Jammu and Kashmir would remain a hub of tourism activities in coming season as focus of the government is to create eco-friendly infrastructure with local aesthetic touch. Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir received a good number of tourists during last year despite prevailing situation in Kashmir valley, adding that tourists want peace and solace by visiting a destination.
“Why should they visit a place where they do not find solace and security,” Minister maintained. He said peace is must to flourish tourism and boost economy of the State and called upon one and all to play their role in strengthening and maintaining the peace and normalcy to facilitate visits of domestic and overseas tourists to the state.
Jora said that destinations like Bungus Valley, Gurez Valley, Dodpathri, Aharbal, Yusmarg in Kashmir valley and Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Sarthal, Noorichamb and Bufliaz and other scenic and adventure spots of Jammu region have been taken to develop as best destinations for diverting the pilgrim tourist inflow especially those who came for the Yatra of Mata Vaishno Devi and Shri Amarnath.
Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, Dr. Varun Sawhney in his presidential address threw light for achieving sustainable tourism development in the state. Dean University of Nevade Las Vegas, Singapore in his key note address gave various suggestions on the topic and presented a power point presentation on sustainable tourism development in Singapore.
