Army aviation corps celebrate silver jubilee | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 17: Army Aviation Corps is celebrating 25 glorious years of its raising in 2011 and as part of its grand events planned throughout the year, to send a message of Camaraderie and spirit-de-corps, corps is undertaking Pushpak expedition covering approximately 8700 Kilometres and 36 erstwhile Air OP locations. Defense spokesman said that army aviation corps was raised on November 1, 1986 following transfer of “Air Observation Post" units from the Air Force to the Army. Since then, the Army Aviation Corps has grown in size and stature to meet the synergy and operational requirements of the Army in modern day battlefield. The Expedition was flagged off during the Aero India 2011 show at Yelahanka Air Base, Bangalore on February 13. The Pushpak aircraft is arriving at Jammu Airport on February 19, 2011 on its way to Nashik. It was actively flown by Army Pilots in the 1965 and 1971 wars while manning Air Observation Posts (Air OPs) along Indo-Pak border. Army aviation aircrafts are used extensively in Northern Command Area of operations in the inhospitable terrain of Jammu and Kashmir. Command is adequately equipped with aviation resources to thwart any threat.
