Congress high command urges coalition partners to cooperate
2/17/2011 10:50:47 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu,Feb 17 -The state unit of the Congress and the leadership of the National Conference have been advised by the Congress high command to cooperate with each other so that the present political arrangement lasted for the full six-year term. The coalition partners have begun feeling uncomfortable with each other after the Congress complains of high highhandedness on the part of the Chief Minister and his trusted men in the National Conference; the NC leadership is jittery over the growing factional feud within the Congress which does not allow the NC to build a sound rapport with its partner.

The reports about growing differences between the NC and the Congress have reached New Delhi and in this context the Congress high command has advised the two partners to strengthen the spirit of coalition in the interest of good governance.

In the meantime the loyalists led by Saif-ud-Din Soz, have again complained to the party high command that the National Conference leadership was trying to seek advantage from the growing rift between the loyalists and the dissidents, who are patronised by the Union Health Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Reports reveal that Azad has been successful in cultivating Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah with the result Soz has been sidelined by the NC leadership. According to these reports the congress high command has taken notice of this development and strict inst ructions were being issued to the dissidents to fall in line and stop holding parallel conferences and rallies.

These reports said that for the time being the Congress high command has turned down the demand of some leaders belonging to the state unit of the party for rotational chief Ministership. The Congress high command has remained the state unit leaders that in 2008 the party had made a commitment to the NC leadership that Omar, rather any NC leader, would be allowed to function as chief Minister for full six years.

The party high command's decision against changing the present arrangement is the result of its belief that Omar has started keeping the situation under control and has begun reaching out to the people which had created a better impression of the Chief Minister. These reports said that even if the Congress high command has lent full support to Omar it still has kept him under its watch list.
