Architect of summer unrest in Kashmir seeks relief | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT srinagar Feb 17: Masarat Alam, the main architect of summer unrest in the valley, has approached high court, seeking quashing of his detention under public safety act (PSA). He was one of the most-wanted fugitives for four months after he kicked off unrest that witnessed fierce street battles and incidents of stone pelting, claiming 110 lives. Over 20 FIRs were registered against him at different places in Kashmir. Under PSA, a man can be jailed for two years without any trail or bail. Alam has been shifted to high security Kot-Bhalwal jail in Jammu after the PSA was slapped against him in December 2010. The HC has issued notices to the government, asking it to file objections within two weeks. Masarat was booked under PSA seven times before being released in June after 21 months of detention just to lead another agitation. |
