| Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football begins today | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 18: Organised by the All J&K Indira Gandhi People’s Association has decided to hold Ist Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament from tomorrow at GGM Science College grounds, here.
This was disclosed by president of the Association, Narinder Gupta in a press conference held here this afternoon. “About 21 teams, including a couple of professional clubs of J&K and neighbouring states, have given their consent for this knock-out competition which shall be declared open at 2 pm tomorrow,” said Narinder Gupta.
The competition is being organised to promote the game of football in the Winter Capital. “The mega event in memory of former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi is being organized with sole aim to promote football in Jammu. Efforts would be made to make it an annual feature,” he informed.
In the inaugural match, Jammu and Kashmir Police shall be playing against Jammu United.
This tournament shall be played under the aegis of Jammu wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) following the rules of All India Football Federation.
