Abid, Thakur excel as J&K loses to Haryana | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 18: Despite brilliant knocks from all-rounder, Abid Nabi and Imraz Thakur, Jammu and Kashmir could not make it a win against Haryana in the North Zone Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day tournament at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Una in Himachal Pradesh today. Notwithstanding the fact that Haryana made it a five-wicket win in the game that was reduced to 32 overs, J&K still have reasons to celebrate their good show against a formidable side. Earlier, after winning the toss and opted to field, Haryana bowlers were surprised to find J&K hitting the bowlers hard and even did not spare the Twenty20 World Cup Hero, Joginder Sharma, reports reaching here said. J&K set a challenging target of 193 runs, at an average of near six-run per over, for the loss of nine wickets in given 32 overs. In reply, Haryana chased in 31 overs with five wickets in hand. Making a good beginning, J&K lost their first wicket at a score of 40 in the shape of Imraz Thakur, who played superb innings of 28-ball 32 runs including seven hits to the fence. Debutant opener, MK Dogra contributed 24 runs. It was followed by poor batting by the middle order with Arshad Bhat, Parvez Rasool, Aditya Partap Singh losing wickets without any remarkable contributions. Skipper, Hardeep Singh continued to play a leading role adding 26 runs to the total. However, it was Abid Nabi, who punished the Haryana bowlers hard hitting power packed shots. Abid hit four sixes to made valuable contributions of unbeaten 40 runs off just 26 deliveries that helped J&K set a challenging total. Joginder Sharma could not do well for his side and gave away 40 runs for one wicket in six overs. Later, Haryana chased the target making 194 runs for the loss of five wickets sparing one over of their innings. Sunny Singh was top scorer from Haryana with 64-ball 65 runs while wicket-keeper batsman, N Saini contributed 43 runs. From J&K, Ram Dayal claimed two wickets while Parvez Rasool, Raman Dutta and Umar Alam shared apiece each. With today’s defeat, J&K lost all their four group matches played and secured two points in an abandoned game against Himachal Pradesh.
