J&K minister seeks transparency, accountability

JAMMU, Feb 18: Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla has said coalition government is committed to provide all infrastructural facilities to peripheral pockets of the State at par with urban areas adding that in this regard central government headed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is providing liberal funding to the State Government.
This was stated by the Minister after launching various development works including construction of lanes and drains at Sumali Mohalla in Old Satwari, coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 25 lakh and 160 meter long nallah including culverts at Shanker Colony in Channi Rama, coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 18 lakh.
During his visit to Shanker Colony in Channi Rama, Bhalla asked the executing agency to immediately start the construction work of 160 meter long and 8 ft. width lane on the retrieved state land from the encroachers on the right embankment of nallah, for which he announced Rs. 12 lakh. He appealed the locals not to encroach State land adding that such type of spaces meant for public property.
Bhalla impressed upon the officers to maintain transparency in the distribution of central and state financial assistance among the needy, besides ensuring its timely disbursement. He said that Government is keen to address weaker section concerns on priority and the administrative machinery needs to gear up for timely redressal of the grievances of the people. He said that providing succor and basic amenities to the people is the top-most priority of the present government.
Meanwhile, Bhalla later inaugurated 4-day state games meet for disabled under the scheme of sports and games for persons with disabilities of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with special olympics bharat, J&K at Sainik School, Nagrota.
About 250 disabled athletes and 90 coaches from different corners of the State participated in the meet. Addressing the gathering, the Minister termed state games for disabled as turning point for the persons with disabilities as they have great hidden potential which needs to be explored through medium of sports. Bhalla extended all support from government to Special Olympics Bharat-J&K and said it is the moral duty of every officer to strengthen this unique movement in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Farooq Renzu Shah appreciated the State Olympic Bharat J&K chapter for doing yeoman’s service in providing all possible support for relief and rehabilitation of disabled and also for organizing state games for socially deprived and destitute communities. In his welcome address, State President SOB, Dr. Ashvini Jojra made a patient appeal to all the sections of the society to make every citizen well aware of the sports and games of disabled.
