Security forces asked to prevent regrouping of militants | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Feb 18 :- Security forces have been directed to maintain pressure on militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir. The police and the paramilitary forces, official sources said, have been asked to be on the offensive so that militants were not able to regroup and carve out new hideouts in the state, especially in the north Kashmir belt. The instructions have been given after reports received by the security agencies revealed that some new groups of militants had sneaked into Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks and were under directions to attack security pickets and posts. The recent attack at Warpora, Sopore, sources believe, ius the handiwork of the newly arrived militants. Reports said that the militants who attacked the police post were equipped with sophisticated weapons and huge quantities of ammunition that helped them to keep the police engaged for about half an hour. The reports said that groups of militants were trying to move from north Kashmir belt to south Kashmir areas so that other groups of militants that were waiting to sneak into Kashmir entrenched themselves in north Kashmir areas. In addition to this, militants have started getting active in Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Kishtwar areas besides some belts of Udhampur and Reasi districts. In this context security forces have been asked to intensify their round the clock patrolling so that militants were forced to be on the run. Intelligence agencies believe that regrouping of militants was being carried out to keep them ready for inciting people to resort to street protests as had been witnessed during five months of summer last year in which 112 people got killed. The civilian strife was being planned after the separatists were informed by their handlers across the LOC that the street protests were more deadly than armed attacks by the militants. The separatists have been told that street protests could be more effective than militancy related violence in forcing India to resolve the Kashmir issue.
