Saints, seers laid strong foundation of Indian society: Dy CM | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 19: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today called upon youth to follow teachings of saints and seers who have laid strong foundation of Indian society based on mutual brotherhood and harmony. Tara Chand was addressing a function organised by Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Community to mark 114th birthday of Shri Guru Gyagi Ji at Shahadpur Kothi. Thousands of devotees including men, women and children hailing from different parts of the area participated in the function which started early in the morning with a prayer and was followed by Bhajans, Satsang and cultural items. Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand who was the Chief Guest on the occasion also presented Gold Medals to the meritorious students and eminent persons who excelled in different fields. Chief Guest Tara Chand and Om Parkash Kaith who was Guest of honour were accorded warm reception by Batwal community members on the occasion. Tara Chand described Guru Gyagi as one of the greatest humanists born who spent his life for the welfare, spiritual, social and moral well being of the entire humanity. “His great message is universal and for all times it points the way of self- realization by love, devotion and service to man and God” Deputy CM added. Earlier, Dilay Ram Kaith in his welcome address said that it was a Red Letter Day in the history of the Batwal Community that a Deputy Chief Minister is among its members to grace the occasion. Ex-MLA Sat Pal Lakhotra stressed for social reforms and need to curb the prevailing social evils. He called for unity, simplicity and discipline among members so that young generation obtains good sanskars. Foundation president Mela Ram Tugga spoke about various activities and achievements of the Foundation. He urged upon the devotees to liberally donate for the expansion and development of premises of Guru Gyagi Temple. Members on the occasion raised various demands including “Economic-cum- Employment Package as promised to Batwal Community in 1994 by government of India following its ethnographic study, and nomination of community member to the J&K legislative council. Community leaders submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister for sympathetic consideration.
