Factionalism in BJP worries supporters | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Feb 19 :-BJP supporters and workers continue to be worried over the growing factional feuds within the party's state unit. Replying a question a senior BJP leader said: "the state unit of the BJP has more factions than the state unit of the Congress." Explaining it he said that the congress in Jammu and Kahmir was divided mainly between the two factions, one owing loyalty to Saif-ud-Din Soz, and the other to the Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad but the state unit of the BJP was divided in four group. He said in fact the party had four groups, one led by Professor Chaman Lal Gupta, one by Dr Nirmal Singh and the third by President Shamsher Singh and so on. The BJP leader said that entry of Dr Jitendra Singh, prominent dermatologist and a columnist, in the party should have proved an asset or the BJP in the state but one group owing allegiance to Shamsher Singh was trying to indulge in leg pulling. He said in the interest of party unity and strength Dr Singh should be encouraged and helped to play a dominant role in the organisation. The leader wanted the party high command to intervene and bring about reconciliation among the different factions failing which whatever gains the party had achieved in the 2008 Assembly poll, when it won 11 seats against one in 2002 election, would be frittered way in due course of time. He also favoured a free hand to Professor Chaman Lal Gupta in framing the future course of action for the party for exposing various omissions and commissions of the ruling coalition in the state. Other leaders said that unit in the party was called for so that it could wage an effective campaign against regional discrimination which had deprived people of the regions of Jammu and Ladakh political empowerment and equal devolution of financial powers. The party was supposed to fight for setting up fresh delimitation commission so that the region of Jammu had as many Assembly segments as the Kashmir valley had
