| Local chairman for SVC | | Panthers Party, Congress join chorus | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Feb 19 : After Peoples Democratic Party’s demand to appoint a local as state vigilance commission chairman, the National Panthers Party and state Congress too have demanded that a state subject should hold the post.
The NPP chief Prof Bhim Singh told media persons that he wants a state subject to hold the post. “Why do we need to borrow officers from outside states? Isn’t there a single honest and upright officer in the state who can be appointed as chairman of SVC,” he asked.
“Why are bureaucrats being imported from outside states? A bill had been passed in the Assembly which clearly states that chairman of SVC should be a state subject,” he added.
Senior Congress leader and former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil also advocated for a state subject to take over as chairman SVC. “I read in newspapers that S S Kapur (former chief secretary of J&K) is in panel for chairman SVC. But I want to mention here that no officer who has leanings with any political party should be appointed as chairman SVC. He should be impartial.”
