NH 1-A opens for passenger vehicles | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Feb 19: After restricting traffic to one-way for over a week due to inclement weather, The traffic movement on Jammu-Srinagar The traffic movement on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was partially restored both ways as authorities today allowed passenger vehicles to move from the twin capitals despite snowfall between Qazigund to Jawahar Tunnel. ''The passenger vehicles were allowed to move on the highway from both Srinagar and Jammu this morning,'' a traffic department official said. However, he said only passeneger vehicles were allowed to move to and fro capital cities and only Srinagar-bound trucks loaded with essential commodities were allowed to ply on NH 1-A. The drivers have been directed to cross Udhampur before 0230 hrs to avoid traffic jam as the weather is cloudy and intermittent snowfall was going on when last reports were received. No heavy vehicle was allowed from this side, the spokesman said adding the trucks reaching Udhampur after the deadline would not be allowed to proceed to their destinations. He said a few inches of snow had accumulated between Qazigund and Jawahar Tunnel this morning but the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) pressed its men and machinery to clear the road.
