Sham for coordinated efforts to save environment | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, FEBRUARY 19: Describing the issue of environment conservation as greatest challenge for the nation, the Minister for Health, Sham Lal Sharma has called for coordinated efforts to deal with the environmental concerns. He said that the subject is related to every human being irrespective of caste, creed and colour and, everybody should contribute to preserve the ecological balance and make this world a pollution free place. Addressing a gathering of students at a function organized by the Public Technocrats Society, an NGO at Government Middle School, Kot Garhi in Akhnoor, the Minister stressed for launching a massive awareness campaign to highlight the importance of neat and clean environment in our day to day life. He said that students are the real ambassadors who can multiply the message about the environment conservation. He stressed for channelizing the potential of the students towards positive direction and their active involvements in the environment related activities, said Sharma. Appreciating the efforts of the NGOs for their commendable contribution in different social activities, the Minister said that Government will encourage all such organizations so that the national flagship programmes including, environment conservation, AIDS, Leprosy could be successfully implemented. He laid stress for organizing such programmes at the Panchyats level with the active involvements of local schools and public representatives for better results. As many as 17 schools of Akhnoor zone participated in today's functions. The students took part in the slogan writing, poster making and painting competitions highlighting the theme of environment conservation. The students also presented cultural programme and skits highlighting the importance of environment which were highly appreciated by the audience. The Minister also gave away cheques of cash assistance to the schools for organizing plantation drive and carrying out other environment related activities in their areas.
