Integration of JK with India irreversible: Prof Chaman
2/19/2011 10:21:58 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 19: The BJP has made it clear that no reversal of the integration process would be tolerated and the fuss for restoration of Autonomy as also that of Self-Rule and Azadi is being created but for a weak and visionless Govt. at the Centre.
This sharp reaction was voiced here today by the leader of the BJP Legislature Party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta over the statement of the National Conference President and Union Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah that the issue of restoration of Autonomy as was in 1953, envisaged in their Autonomy Resolution would be pursued vigorously in the Parliament and other fora. Prof. Gupta said that this resolution of the National Conference Govt. was rejected by the NDA Govt. at the Centre in 2001 itself when the
National Conference was also a partner but it was strange that the NC leadership is again racking up this pernicious issue by taking advantage of the sad situation, both in the State as also at the
Centre because of the Congress has fallen from grace to meet then challenges of separatism and semi-separatism as this party wants to retain power even at the cost of the national interests and that of unity of the country. In this regard, he referred to the folly of appointing interlocutors whose exercise in the name of finding political solution to the so called Kashmir problem, is encouraging all the divisive tendencies, including the slogans of Autonomy Self Rule, plebiscite and even that of Azadi.
Prof. Gupta also assailed the Congress as also its allies for their dragging feet with regard to extending of 73rd and 74th Amendments for empowerment of the Panchayats and Local Bodies despite clear commitments in their Election Manifesto as also even in the State
Legislature when the Governor in February 2009 in his address had promised to do so.
BJP leader questioned that if the 73rd and 74th Amendments could be useful for rest of the country, why the people of this State are being deprived of the virtues of Panchayati Raj in real sense and the Local Bodies are being made a mockery in the absence of 74th Amendment.
