NC’s mismanaged press meet penalizes all Media persons humiliated; MLAs, Mantris too face ordeal | | | KUNAL SHRIVATSA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 19: The press conference addressed by the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was a complete mismanaged show. On one hand Ministers had to stand throughout the media interaction programme while it was no less than harassment for several scribes who had to run here and there to park their vehicles. Since security personnel refused to allow parking of vehicles near Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan, the headquarters of National Conference, citing safety measures a large number of media persons tried to park their vehicles on ever busy Residency Road. However, with roadside parking lots almost full to their capacity only a few of the ‘lucky’ journos could park their cars, scooters or motorbikes there. Seeing no other alternative to park vehicles, some of the reporters and cameramen moved towards Hotel Mansar and tried hard to explore a possibility to get rid of the parking problem. Since time was ticking fast a few of the scribes in a fear of missing the ‘all important assignment’ parked their motors near Junior wing of Model Academy. Soon the media persons, thinking that they had overcome the ordeal, left for the venue and attended the press conference but a shock was waiting for few of them as they returned back their vehicles were missing from the spots they had parked. “When I came back to collect my car I was dumb stuck to find that it cwas missing from the place where I parked it…. Initially I thought that it is the handiwork of car lifters but on enquiring from the shopkeepers I came to know that traffic police has towed my vehicle.” one of the scribes seeking anonymity told Early Times “I immediately called up SP Traffic who told that my car is at Vivekananda Chowk….. I re ached there and found that my car was badly damaged.” he added Lambasting the arrangements, the aggrieved scribe said that traffic police should have made parking arrangements for the vehicles of media persons at Hari Singh High School to avoid harassment and confusion. |
