MLA Langate to bring ‘important’ bills in Assembly | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 20: The MLA Langate, Er Rasheed, Sunday said that he will bring some “important pro-people” bills in the coming budget session of the Assembly. In a statement, he said, “I’ll play my part constructively in the session ensuring peoples’ genuine issues are identified and redressed.” Addressing a gathering at Rajpora Rajwar in Handwara, while referring to eight percent reservation for Schedule Castes in non-Schedule Caste districts of Kashmir, Rasheed said he will be launching the second phase of his fight to end the injustice being meted out to people of non-Schedule Caste districts. “I’m not against reservation to SCs, it is their right; but it is injustice to have SC reservation in those districts where there are no SCs actually living,” he asserted adding that his bill will seek to end this discrimination and injustice. Reiterating his stand on the reservation policy under various SROs, Rasheed said that this policy needs to be made rational. “I’ll bring a bill seeking only one-time benefit under all reservations. A family should get benefit of a reservation just one time because it has been long seen that well-off families thrive on the irrational reservation policies while as genuine ones are pushed to the wall. This is one of the reasons that reservations have not brought the social change for which they were meant,” he said. Talking about his proposed bill to name the State’s governor and chief minister as president and prime minister respectively, Rasheed said it will be a move towards restoring the eroded autonomy J&K enjoyed before 1953. “Most of the State’s political parties including NC and PDP are demanding empowerment of the State. Let them begin this empowerment by supporting my bill and ensure a step towards political empowerment.”
