2/21/2011 12:17:08 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, 20 Feb: Expressing serious concern over shortage of ration in Marwah and Decchan blocks of Kishtwar district due to embezzlement of food grains, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today regretted that instead of bringing the culprits to book, authorities have brazenly been trying to hush up the scam worth crores to appease their political masters belonging to ruling party.
In a joint statement issued here today, MLA Mendhar Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan and PDP Kishtwar district president Shakir Siddqui charged the authorities with succumbing before the political pressure. PDP leaders said that the scam was exposed some months back but no action has been taken so far in this regard.
They said that authorities have been adopting delaying tactics in this scam to protect the main culprits involved in this scandal. Contesting tall claims of the State Government to launch a war against corruption, PDP leaders said that Kishtwar food grain scam was a test case before the National Conference led government but the authorities failed to take action against the culprits due to political pressure.
The leaders mentioned that when this scam was exposed, the concerned minister, with much publicity had announced an inquiry to single out the culprits, but till action has not taken against any person. They expressed surprise that the concerned officer, who was asked to conduct the inquiry by the Minister, has been sidelined in the probe and in his place another tainted officer, whose involvement was earlier established in such scams, has been asked to visit the areas from where food grains were embezzled. “It is nothing but an eyewash to befool the people”, they said and warned that PDP would not hesitate to take some strong step if action was not taken against the culprits responsible for selling ration in the open market.
