Farmers supplying milk to army seek payment of bills | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 21: Aggrieved at non-payment of bills, farmers of Jammu region today submitted a memorandum to military farm seeking immediate release of bills. In a handout issued here today, it has been stated that a good number of farmer leaders led by Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Union (J&KCU) Rajesh Sharma visited the military farms and apprised the higher-ups of problems being faced by them. They apprised the officials about the delay in releasing their payments. Sharma said J&K dairy producers, processors and marketing cooperative union (JKDCUL) have been supplying milk to army in Jammu and Kashmir since years but the payments are being made irregularly to them. He added that 50 days payment is pending with army. “It is the money of local farmers who are producers at grassroot level. If regular payment has been committed to the farmers in agreements, delay is likely to worsen the situation,” added Sharma. He further said that Ministry of Defence (MOD) has been very kind in providing opportunities to local cooperatives for supplying milk to army in Jammu and Kashmir through department of military farms and same sense of goodwill should also be reflected on ground and local cooperatives should not be harassed.
