| Governor XI in semis of Police Friendship Cricket | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 21: Governor XI today sailed into the semi-finals of the ongoing J&K Police Friendship Cup Twenty20 Cricket Tournament outplaying Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) XI by a big margin of 82 runs at University of Jammu grounds, here. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, Governor XI set a target of 172 runs for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, which, in reply, JMC XI could not chase and the whole side bowled out for 90 runs. Arif was top scorer with 74 runs while Munish played superb innings of 53 runs. From JMC XI, Sonu took two wickets while Amarjeet and Varun, who shared a piece each. Later, chasing the challenging total, JMC XI bundled out for 90 runs in last 20th over. Jagu and Ashok were only recognized batsmen with 19 and 18 runs in their respectgive accounts. Arif and Ishtiaq were most successful bowlers with three wickets each from Governor XI. Arif was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant knock of 74 runs. He also bowled well taking away three wickets.
Engineers XI wins by 16 runs
In another match of the day, Engineers XI registered a 16-run win over Chief Secretary XI. Batting first, Engineers made 143 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Irfan was main scorer with 53 runs, followed by Ashok (31) and Rakesh (26) on the scoreboard. Majid clinched two wickets from CS XI while Asif and Ajaz shared one each. Batting second, Chief Secretary XI could not attain the goal and bowled out for 127 runs in the allotted 20 overs losing eight wickets. Majid and Abdul Gani contributed 40 and 21 runs respectively. From Engineers XI, Wasim bagged two wickets. Sushil and Rakesh took one each. FIXTURE: DGP XI to face SKAUST VC (Srinagar) XI in the morning while Director Youth Services and Sports XI shall take on JU VC XI in the afternoon session.
